Product description

PRODART 1 MG and FINASTERIDE 100 MG contains an active ingredient known as a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor, which reduces the amount of the male hormone, (DHT), in your body. DHT is produced by the testes in response to your body’s development of a hair follicle. Once the follicle has reached its resting phase, DHT is eliminated from the bloodstream through the genital epithelial cells. This medication belongs to a class of medicines known as 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors. Once the follicle has reached its resting phase, DHT is eliminated from the bloodstream.

Topical minoxidil & finasteride, like any medication, can cause side effects and carries certain risks. The most common side effect is local scalp irritation. This is potentially caused by the propylene glycol base, which the minoxidil and finasteride are dissolved in. Additionally, shedding of hair is common in the first two to eight weeks of treatment. This is likely due to hair follicles releasing hair that is no longer growing in order to start up new growth. Additionally, the topical minoxidil and finasteride solution may cause facial hypertrichosis or the growth of excessive hair on the face. This normally resolves within 4 months of ceasing treatment. Some women may also experience headaches, metallic taste in mouth, metallic taste in mouth, breathlessness, palpitations and tachycardia when taking this medication. Do not use any products containing minoxidil if you are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant. Consulting your Evernow provider about any concerns or side effects is crucial for appropriate management and evaluation of the treatment's safety.

Medication InteractionsOther medications that may cause reactions include:
  • Topical medications (e.g., minoxidil and finasteride) that may cause irritation of the scalp or the dilation of blood vessels caused by the medication. These medications should be used with caution in patients with heart disease or those taking medications that lower blood pressure. Do not use with drugs that may be used to treat high blood pressure or angina (a blood vessel disease that may cause chest pain) or those who take other medications that may cause irritation of the skin. Consult your physician if you need help using medications that may cause irritation of the skin.
  • HIV protease inhibitors (e.g., saquinavir or ritonavir) that may cause irritation of the skin.

Hormonal changes and medication

Hormone changes, such as low or no estrogen, can also cause side effects. Some medications can cause local irritation of the scalp or hair follicles. Also, certain drugs can cause vaginal dryness or increased sensitivity of vaginal skin. Therefore, women who experience dryness of the vagina should not use this medication.

Venlafine and minoxidil

Venlafine and minoxidil may cause side effects in some women. In these cases, your Evernow provider may recommend that you use minoxidil with each medication. Women taking medications that cause local irritation or sensitivity should not use this medication. Instead, your Evernow provider may recommend that they use topical minoxidil solution containing 0.3% finasteride or 0.01% finasteride cream. For those with hormonal imbalances, you should apply the solution on the skin several times daily for approximately 4 weeks. Once hair has formed, the solution is released and your body adjusts to the presence of minoxidil or finasteride, you should expect to apply the solution on your scalp several times daily for approximately 4 weeks. Finasteride and minoxidil should be used with caution in these cases and only when the risk of side effects is clearly outweighable. Consulting your Evernow provider for more details about the most common medication interactions for topical minoxidil and topical finasteride for hair.

Other medications and supplements that may interact with minoxidil and finasteride

Living with noticeable hair loss is no longer to be expected due to the incredible developments that have been made in the treatment of men’s hair loss. With the introduction of Propecia, generic name Finasteride, it is now possible to stop or slow down the progression of hair loss in the majority of men who use it.

Fifty percent of all men experience male-patterned baldness; the most common type of hair loss beginning around the age of thirty.

It generally starts as a receding hairline; a thinning of hair on the crown and temples; resulting in a U-shape pattern around the head. In some rare cases, a male may end up completely bald.

The condition is genetic; caused by an abundance of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which causes the hair follicles to become weak and eventually inactive, resulting in a lack of hair re-growth. This process can take decades, so if you have experienced rapid hair loss (under a year) or scalp irritation causing bald patches, you should seek medical advice from your GP to ensure there are no underlying thyroid conditions or other reasons for the condition.

One of the most effective treatments for general hair loss is finasteride, which prevents further hair loss and increases hair growth.

In terms of effectiveness, finasteride has been shown to be most effective for the treatment of male-pattern baldness. It is comparable, atleast in terms of duration of action, to a receding hairline, although it should not be used for more than 2 years.

In comparison, finasteride should not be used for more than 10 years unless special considerations are met. It is, therefore, now possible to shorten the treatment time by at least 2 years if applicable, and in no more than 3 doses. This is met by the caplets which may need to be swallowed whole with a glass of water, as side effects can occur.

Finasteride is also indicated for the treatment of male-related hair loss in men and for the treatment of vertex hair loss.

Part IIApproximately 20% of everyone with hair loss, or approximately one in three (1 in 3) men, will get male-pattern baldness if we stop taking finasteride, but it is important to take into account that finasteride may also be used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) (4 years for a 15 year-uish bearing men and 10 for a 15 year-uish-abetiac men) and also for the treatment of hair loss that is not caused by infections (such as athlete’s foot or BPH-like symptoms).

Finasteride 1mg Tablet for 1 year Finasteride is indicated to be an effective treatment for general hair loss (30%) and also for the treatment of hair loss (25%) that is not caused by infections.

It is, therefore, also important to take finasteride 1mg Tablet for 1 year for most cases of male-pattern baldness and to, in some cases, complete hair loss between 12 and 25 years of age.

There is no evidence that the duration of action of finasteride is lower, or longer, than what can be expected using other treatments for hair loss.
